To keep the memories alive of the adventure we have just completed over the last 18 months, I wanted to share a few pictures to look back and remember the good times, late nights and endless assignments and case studies we have had to endure in completing our MBA. Most of us are now embarking on completing our capstone research project but we will see everyone again June 9th at the Conexus Arts Centre for Convocation.

Memories of Brazil by Brian T.
If I were to pick one word to describe my experience with this study trip to Brazil I would choose the word “surprise.” There was something new to see, do or learn around every corner. This trip to Brazil exceeded my expectations on several levels with the people, the businesses and attractions, the beauty of the country, the architecture, the rich heritage, and the people.
If I were to pick one word to describe Brazil – the people we met, the businesses and attractions we visited, and the total experience we had on our trip I would choose the word “passion.” The people of Brazil appeared to me to be very passionate about their country, their work, their families, their clothing and appearance, their sports - especially football, and their leisure time. They are not reluctant in the least to express that passion as they talk about their country, businesses and people. They show much public affection for each other embracing and kissing and they are very easy to make friends with.
What can I say about Rob Giberson? He did an amazing job at pulling off this study trip. Not only did we get a glimpse into Brazilian business we learned about the culture with a few tourist visits as well. And...we are all home safe. He also had things so well organized there was very little time for shopping which saved me a bundle. Thank you Rob.
Finally I would like to say something about our group but really there are no words to describe our experience together. We looked after each other. We looked out for each other and we developed life-long friendships. Our differing personalities made for some good humour, very good times together and made the overall study trip to Brazil a huge success. Thank you group.

Day 9 & 10 - H. Sterns and the journey home
After we all checked out of the hotel and argued with the front desk about the mini-bar consumption, we were happy to see the farewell committee of street vendors that had assembled to wish us a 'bon-voyage' and secure any final sales!
H. Stern is a major player the jewelery industry and the largest in Brazil. They do everything from the extraction, manufacturing and sales of the gems.
I had to take this picture as it was one of the most interesting precious stones I'd ever seen!
H. Stern specializes in colored gem stones and had lots of variety to showcase.
Imperial Topaz below is a rare gem stone that is only mined from one place in Brazil.
We were then given an audio-guided tour of how the company operates and gets the stones from raw material to storeroom quality all in house.
After the tour, we were divided into groups of two and a sales person proceeded to sell us on the different items they offered. Some purchased items but for those that didn't, we were quickly whisked away to the gift shop.
Sonya was our guide in Rio and was an excellent host, her knowledge and humor made the time in Rio unforgettable! Here were some parting gifts to show our appreciation.
Austin and Lyndon posing for a shot at the airport before some last minute purchases are done before heading back to Canada.
Some very weary travelers at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto waiting for the last connecting flight back to Regina.
We finally arrived back in Regina and were greeting by Dr. Anne Lavack, Dean of the Business Administration Department of the University of Regina and lots of family and friends. Some could not even wait for their daddy to get to the bottom of the stairs!! Everyone was glad to be reunited and back together.
Thanks to Caroline who contributed a lot of the write-ups for the tours we attended and all our readers for sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with us. Thanks to Rob for arranging this wonderful trip and all the work and stress he had trying to "herd the cats" as it were! Thanks to Rhoda at the U of R for all the behind-the-scenes work she did to make this trip a reality and thanks to all my fellow classmates for putting up with my endless picture taking!

Day 8 - Seeing the sights of Rio!
The president of Brazil is in Rio as they are trying to get the I.O.C. to approve their bid for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games. It started with a navy demonstration of this amazing vessel on the bay. Sorry I could not get a picture to show the actual grandeur of it!
The airforce put on a show across the beach.
May 1st is Labour day in Brazil and everyone got ready to party on the beach.
The palace below was built for the royal family before Brazil became a republic.
The train line up the mountain to the statue of Christ overlooking the city.
At 38 meters tall, the statue of Christ was built in the 30s and is one of the 7 wonders of the world!
How's that for a stairway to heaven!
The adventures continued with a stop at a great beach to watch the hang gliders coming off the nearby mountains to the sand.
We made great use of our time and extra Realis bills and got some great stuff from the street vendors.
Kelly was not only without his sweater vest, but actually had short sleeves and shorts! He jumped with both feet and got a coconut to complete the experience.
Sonya, our guide, pointed out her soccor team that is playing on Sunday in the Brazil finals. The whole town is in an uproar over this game!
Brazilian Favellos, are the slums areas of town that no one, even the police, do not go into unless absolutely necessary! This one is one of the biggest in Brazil with over 200,000 residents! It was featured in the Hulk movie with Edward Norton.
Mangue Seco was a great little restaurant across the street from the dance club. They have the largest collection of sugar cane wines in Brazil. The meal started off with shooters of the liquid sunshine and ended with a wonderful combination of rice, shrimp stew and crushed flower powder. Very Yummy!
It poured like crazy while we ate, which is the first for the trip but was done before we finished eating, which was nice, I spent a lot of time on my hair for the night!
The Scenarium is one of the 10 best night clubs in the world and it was not hard to see why. It was packed to the rafters; all three levels of an 19th century mansion. Lots of samba dancing. When we left after a few hours there was still a line up down the block of people wanting to get in!
The antiques covered every square inch of walls and ceiling. It was definitely a site to behold!
Sorry this video is so dark, the club was lit too dimly for the camera.
